  • Most people can picture a “Camp Counselor” in their minds quite easily; whistle, dolphin shorts, running away from Jason Vorhees mom, but in reality, a camp counselor looks just like you! Camp Morty’s counselors come from as close as Westchester County, New York, to as far South Africa. Our counselors are motivated team players with a ton of skills and character. If this sounds like you, we’d love for you to apply!

    Camp Morty is a free residential summer camp for Westchester County children ages 8-17 that are receiving services through the Department of Social Services. Our General Counselors are role models that are responsible for ensuring a safe and fun camp experience for all campers. They also assist with the facilitation of daily activities, attend trainings, and work with leadership to implement programming.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for care and supervision of a group of campers as they navigate day-to-day at camp. 

    • Be an active member of the camp community by participating in all programming and activities including camp-wide events, hikes, ropes course, sports, talent shows, and village meetings. 

    • Explain and review the camp policies, traditions and rules with campers.

    • Maintain daily camp reports on each camper to help evaluate their needs, goals, and progress during their camp experience. (Procedures for record-keeping will be covered in pre-camp orientation). 

    • Abide by all rules, regulations, and safety procedures as outlined in the staff manual. 

    • Assume responsibility for the use and care of camp equipment and facilities. 

    • Strive to work in a cooperative manner with fellow staff to achieve goals of the program. 

    • Understand that campers come first and decisions should be made in the best interest of campers. 

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years of age

    • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent

    • Experience working with teens, adolescents or children

    • Experience writing lesson plans and teaching is a plus

    • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices is a plus

    • Experience working with underserved populations is a plus

    • Background in camping/ orienteering is a plus

    This is a sleepaway camp, and the position requires on-site boarding for the duration of the summer.

  • Westchester Parks Foundation is seeking hardworking, reliable Maintenance Assistants to help keep Camp Morty clean, safe, and well-organized throughout the summer. Camp Morty is a free sleepaway summer camp in Westchester County serving youth ages 8-17 who receive services through the Department of Social Services, including foster care, shelters, and child protective services. Camp Morty operates for six weeks each summer at Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem and provides a safe, structured, and transformative experience for youth who have faced real challenges.

    The Maintenance Assistant is a seasonal, live-on-site support position responsible for helping maintain clean, safe, sanitary, and organized camp facilities. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, this role supports daily cleaning, dishwashing and dining-area sanitation, garbage and recycling removal, activity set-ups, and general operational tasks that help camp run smoothly each day.

    Responsibilities

    • Work under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and follow daily assignments, schedules, checklists, and safety expectations.

    • Clean and maintain cabins, bathrooms, dining areas, offices, program spaces, common areas, and shared facilities.

    • Support dishwashing and dining-area sanitation to help maintain a clean and sanitary food service environment.

    • Remove garbage and recycling according to camp schedules and keep outdoor spaces, walkways, and common areas tidy.

    • Assist with activity, program, and event set-up/breakdown, including tables, chairs, equipment, supplies, and room preparation.

    • Restock paper goods, soap, cleaning supplies, and other materials in assigned areas as directed.

    • Identify and report safety hazards, facility concerns, supply needs, or maintenance issues promptly to the Maintenance Manager.

    • Use cleaning products, tools, and equipment safely and responsibly, following all camp safety guidelines.

    • Support rainy-day operations, camper turnover needs, large events, and other high-volume cleaning moments as needed.

    • Work cooperatively with other maintenance staff, kitchen staff, counselors, program staff, and camp leadership.

    • Maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries when working around campers, staff, families, and community partners.

    • Additional responsibilities as needed and assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 16 years of age by the start of camp and authorized to work in the United States.

    • Strong work ethic; able to follow instructions, complete tasks thoroughly, and work well as part of a team.

    • Comfortable performing physical work outdoors and indoors in a sleepaway camp environment.

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely perform cleaning, carrying, set-up, and related physical tasks.

    • Reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and willing to jump in where help is needed.

    • Able to work efficiently during busy times, including meals, facility turnovers, rainy days, and camp events.

    • Prior experience in custodial, maintenance, dishwashing, camp, school, warehouse, janitorial, or related hands-on work preferred, but not required.

    • Ability to pass required background checks and clearance requirements.

    • Must successfully complete required orientation and safety training.

    • Must be available for the full seasonal term (June 11, 2026 through August 11, 2026).

    This is a seasonal stipend position. Compensation for the full summer contract period (June 11, 2026 through August 11, 2026) is $3,000 - $4,500, based on experience and qualifications.

    The Maintenance Manager & Camp Driver is a seasonal leadership position (mid-June through mid-August) responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning camp environment while also providing safe, reliable transportation support for staff, supplies, and daily camp operations. This role supervises a team of maintenance staff and plays a critical part in supporting the camp's overall safety, organization, and day-to-day function.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise and schedule a team of three maintenance workers, including training, daily task assignment, quality control, and follow-through.

    • Establish and manage daily and weekly cleaning schedules to maintain consistent camp standards across all facilities.

    • Oversee the cleaning and upkeep of cabins, bathrooms, dining areas, offices, program spaces, and shared facilities to ensure spaces remain sanitary, safe, and well-organized.

    • Coordinate dishwashing and dining-area sanitation support as needed to maintain a clean and compliant food service environment.

    • Manage garbage and recycling removal schedules and keep outdoor spaces, walkways, and common areas tidy and hazard-free.

    • Monitor facilities for safety hazards and address minor repairs when appropriate; promptly report significant repairs or infrastructure concerns to the Camp Director and/or Mountain Lakes Park staff.

    • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and maintenance materials; submit timely requests for replenishment and ensure safe storage and use of chemicals and equipment.

    • Enforce safety protocols related to cleaning equipment, chemical use, lifting, and waste disposal.

    • Maintain logs of cleaning and maintenance tasks, document facility concerns and actions taken, and communicate regularly with camp leadership regarding facility status and priorities.

    • Assist with event and program set-up/breakdown and support camp operations during emergencies or weather-related situations, as needed.

    • Safely transport staff to and from designated bus sites, off-site activities, and other scheduled camp transportation needs.

    • Operate camp vehicles in accordance with New York State laws and camp safety protocols.

    • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle checks, maintain vehicle logs, and keep vehicles clean and organized.

    • Support pick-up and delivery of supplies, food, equipment, and program materials as needed.

    • Communicate promptly with the Camp Director regarding schedules, delays, incidents, vehicle concerns, or operational issues requiring leadership awareness.

    • Uphold confidentiality and maintain professional conduct when interacting with staff, families, and community partners.

    • Additional responsibilities as needed and assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 21 years of age by the start of camp.

    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required; experience driving passenger vans preferred.

    • Prior experience in facilities, custodial work, maintenance, or similar operations work preferred; supervisory experience strongly preferred.

    • Experience supervising teen staff or seasonal workers preferred; able to coach, set expectations, and maintain accountability.

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work in an outdoor camp environment in varying weather.

    • Strong reliability, organization, and follow-through; able to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize effectively.

    • Ability to pass required background checks and clearance requirements.

    • Must successfully complete CPR / First Aid training during orientation week (training provided).

    • Basic knowledge of general repairs (minor carpentry, plumbing, or electrical troubleshooting) preferred.

    • Strong documentation habits (logs, checklists, task tracking) preferred.

    • Prior experience working in youth-serving settings, camps, schools, or similar environments preferred.

    • Must be available for the full seasonal term (June 12, 2026 through August 11, 2026).

    This is a seasonal stipend position. Compensation for the full summer contract period (June 12, 2026 through August 11, 2026) is $5,500 - $6,000, based on experience and qualifications.

  • Westchester Parks Foundation is seeking a confident, safety-focused leader for the Waterfront Director position at Camp Morty, a free sleepaway summer camp in Westchester County serving youth ages 8–17 who receive services through the Department of Social Services, including foster care, shelters, and child protective services. Camp Morty operates for six weeks each summer at Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem and provides a safe, structured, and transformative experience for youth who have faced real challenges.

    The Waterfront Director is a seasonal leadership position (mid-June through mid-August) responsible for overseeing all waterfront operations, supervising lifeguards, and ensuring full compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining camper safety while fostering a positive and developmentally appropriate aquatics program.

    Responsibilities

    • Plan, organize, and direct all waterfront and swimming activities, ensuring programming is safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for campers.

    • Supervise, support, and evaluate a team of 2–5 lifeguards, ensuring clear expectations, professional conduct, and consistent performance.

    • Ensure the waterfront operates within required safety practices, including appropriate supervision ratios, access control, participant readiness checks, and enforcement of all waterfront rules. 

    • Implement and reinforce the camp’s NYS-approved swim safety plan, including annual review and documentation requirements.

    • Oversee daily waterfront set-up, breakdown, and safety checks, ensuring required inspections and logs are completed and maintained.

    • Maintain accurate swimmer assessments, skill-level groupings, attendance logs, progress tracking, and incident documentation.

    • Lead regular in-service trainings and emergency drills to refresh lifeguard skills and ensure readiness at all times.

    • Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and ensure lifeguard staff are trained on emergency response, communication protocols, and incident procedures.

    • Monitor environmental conditions (weather, heat, water conditions, storms) and modify or pause programming when safety risks are present.

    • Train and orient general camp staff during orientation on waterfront expectations, counselor supervision roles, and safety reinforcement procedures.

    • Communicate promptly with the Camp Director regarding safety concerns, documentation issues, staff performance concerns, or any incident requiring leadership awareness.

    • Model a calm, decisive, and supportive leadership presence during both routine programming and emergencies.

    • Understand that campers come first and decisions should always be made in the best interest of camper safety and wellbeing.

    • Be an active member of the camp community by participating in camp-wide programs, events, overnights, hikes, and activities when not actively supervising waterfront programming, as needed.

    • Be totally familiar with emergency procedures and follow them when necessary, supporting the Camp Director and leadership team during camp-wide emergencies.

    • May be assigned additional duties (program coverage, camper supervision support, bus pick-ups/drop-offs, or other operational needs) as directed by the Camp Director, provided primary waterfront responsibilities remain fully covered.

    • Additional responsibilities as needed and assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 21 years of age by the start of camp.

    • Must meet one of the following NYS Children’s Camp Aquatics Director experience requirements:

    1. One season of experience as a waterfront/aquatics director at a New York State children’s camp; OR

    2. Two seasons (minimum 12 weeks) as a children’s camp lifeguard where more than one lifeguard supervised at a time; OR

    3. 18 weeks of lifeguarding experience at a swimming pool or bathing beach where more than one lifeguard supervised at a time.

    • Current certification in lifeguard supervision and management (ARC, BSA, SOLO, or equivalent).

    • Current CPR / First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to June 12, 2026).

    • Strong safety judgment and ability to enforce procedures consistently while maintaining a youth-centered approach.

    • Strong organizational skills with attention to documentation, compliance, and operational detail.

    • Excellent communication skills and ability to train and supervise staff effectively.

    • Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather conditions and maintaining vigilance in a high-supervision environment.

    • Must be available for the full seasonal term (June 12, 2026 through August 11, 2026).

  • Westchester Parks Foundation is seeking an energetic and engaging instructor to lead STEM classes at Camp Morty, a free residential camp program for Westchester County children receiving services through the Department of Social Services. The STEM Specialist will work from mid-June through mid-August and create and teach a STEM-based curriculum to varying age groups between 8 and 15 years old.

    The STEM Specialist’s primary responsibility is developing an engaging, hands-on curriculum that introduces the fundamentals of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through camp-friendly learning experiences. Lessons may include experiments, design challenges, beginner robotics, building activities, and problem-solving games that help campers explore how things work, think critically, and gain confidence trying something new.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop creative, engaging, and educational lesson plans rooted in STEM principles.

    • Teach groups of approximately 10 campers during hour-long activity blocks.

    • Lead hands-on lessons that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, teamwork, experimentation, and perseverance.

    • Adjust lessons for different age groups, ability levels, and learning needs.

    • Incorporate activities such as simple experiments, engineering challenges, beginner robotics, building projects, and interactive STEM games.

    • Help campers feel successful even when tasks are challenging by reinforcing effort, participation, and growth.

    • When not teaching, serve as general camp staff and help support camper supervision and safety.

    • Explain and review camp policies, traditions, and rules with campers.

    • Maintain records on each camper to help evaluate their needs, goals, and progress during their camp experience. (Procedures for record-keeping will be covered in pre-camp training).

    • Ability to make STEM concepts fun, clear, and accessible for beginners.

    • Experience working with underserved populations is a plus.

    • Background in camping, youth development, enrichment, or outdoor education is a plus.
